Justice League Freaks and Geeks

Freaks and Geeks is one of the best shows of all time (I’d say it’s my second favourite show ever) even though it only ran for one season way back in 1999.  My 14 year old self was one of the few people who watched all of the episodes as they aired on NBC (which was hard to do… they moved it around a lot), and the DVD set is one of the best things I have ever purchased in my entire life.

If you have never watched Freaks and Geeks, you have deprived yourself of spectacular entertainment and you should go watch it.  And if you have watched it, doubtless you loved it and will think this is as crazy awesome as I do:

They have a feature on the Comic Book Resources blog called “The Line it is Drawn”, where a team of artists takes suggestions of amusing comic book mashups.  This week the theme was television drama and superheroes, and Caanan Grall (who we have seen here before with his Tron Wonder Woman) did that FANTASTIC Justice League/Freaks and Geeks piece.

Here are the analogues, from left to right:

  • Donna Troy = Cindy Sanders
  • Superman = Sam Weir
  • The Flash = Bill Haverchuk
  • Martian Manhunter = Harris Trinsky
  • Batman = Neil Schweiber
  • Zatanna = Millie Kentner
  • Wonder Woman = Lindsay Weir
  • Darkseid = Nick Andopolis
  • Cheetah = Kim Kelly
  • Lex Luthor = Daniel Desario
  • Gorilla Grodd = Ken Miller

I love that Cindy, Harris, and Millie made the picture… they’re not really main characters, but they’re hilarious and awesome.  Millie especially… she kills me.  I wish Harold and Jean had been in it too… maybe as Pa and Ma Kent.  My dad still trots out Harold’s “Where is he now?  He’s dead!!” speeches from time to time.

I could go on about Freaks and Geeks forever (I could write a book on the epicness of “Lady L” alone)… it’s an astoundingly good show that has spawned some huge stars, in front of and behind the camera.  Seriously, go watch it if you haven’t!!

You can visit Caanan Grall at his website, and here is some Freaks and Geeks hilarity for us all:
