Last week, DC set a new record with the highest percentage of female creators we’ve seen yet. This week? It’s a new low for DC. DC Comics put out 20 comic books on February 16, 2011, with 175 creators. Of these, 160 were male and 15 were female. Let’s chart them up in a pie:
DC has been below ten percent only once before, and just barely at that. Posting an 8.6% is pretty terrible for DC, and doubly so after the solid numbers they put up the week before. Now, a week is just a week… if they are back to form next week, their average for February should be very close to their January average. But it’s a bad week regardless. Here are the numbers broken down by category:
And charted up:
So we’ve got some zeroes in the categories that get your name on the cover, writing and pencilling, and only one inker… that’s not so hot. Covers and colourers are down some, which is odd. Colourists are usually at least a guaranteed double digit percentage. Assistant editor is slightly less than average, but editor is actually up a smidge from last week. Overall, this is typical distribution with extra bad numbers… the chart has its usual ups and downs, but every line is noticeably shorter.
Notes:
- Still no ladies on Wonder Woman, which just seems weird to me.
- The busiest book was Brightest Day #20, with 17 creators. Green Lantern Corps #62 and Wonder Woman #607 were tied for second with 12.
- The book with the most female creators, percentagewise, was Tiny Titans #37, which had one female creator out of the three credited. However, Baltazar and Franco do a ton of jobs on that book, so the numbers get a little wonky. The highest percentage for a comic produced with a more usual number of creators was Ratchet & Clank #6, which was 2 of 7.
- Numerically, DC Universe Online Legends #2 had the most female creators with three.
