And we’re back on track!! May 18, 2011, was a busier week than usual for DC (though the busyness is about to go through the roof in June with all the Flashpoint tie-ins!!). They put out 21 new comics with 160 credited creators, 143 male and 17 female. The percentages look like so:
It’s not great, but it’s not terrible. Double digits is always nice to see, and after the big numbers DC posted in the first two weeks of May, a drop was sort of inevitable. And if 10.6% is the lowest it drops, that’s pretty decent. Lord knows they’ve dropped MUCH further before. If they put up some numbers anywhere in the vicinity of average next week, this is going to end up a really huge month for DC. Let’s break the numbers down:
And chart them up like so:
Assistant editors are a bit above average, while colourists are in their normal range. Plus there’s a penciller, which is sadly above average for DC. And there’s a letterer!! That almost never happens lately, so good work Saida Temofonte!! Here’s hoping she gets another gig once Deus Ex wraps up. Editors and cover artists were a bit low, while no writers or inkers is obviously a bad thing. Overall, not too exciting a week at DC. Seeing a few zeroes every week is starting to bum me out.
Notes:
- The colourist for Spirit #14 was listed as “Ego” and I have no idea who that is… googling proved fruitless as well, so if you know who “Ego” is and what gender they happen to be, I’d be glad to know and I’ll adjust the stats accordingly.
- The busiest book of the week was T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents #7 with 11 creators, one of them a woman. That book is always busy.
- The book with the highest percentage of female creators was Teen Titans #95 at 2 of 7. Four other books (Batman #710, DC Universe Online Legends #8, Deus Ex #4, and Hellblazer #279) were all 2 of 8.
