Twelve Days of Wonder Woman: Day Five

December 17, 2010

FIVE GOLDEN RINGS… or, rather, the fifth day!!

Today’s cover is from the 1975 special edition Christmas with the Super-Heroes, and is drawn by Curt Swan and Bob Oksner.  It features expected heroes, like Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, and Santa, but also, and somewhat bizarrely, includes Cain from House of Mystery, and a Golden Age Sandman and Sandy the Golden Boy:

This issue actually sounds like a crazy good time.  It was oversized, reprinting several holiday themed stories, along with some puzzles and that spiffy new Curt Swan cover.  DC should think about bringing that back… the holiday specials they do now are fun and all, but oversized with puzzles would be super cool.

Twelve Days of Wonder Woman: Day Four

December 16, 2010

Day four is now upon us, with another holiday cover!!

We are back to Comic Cavalcade, with Comic Cavalcade #19, drawn by Everett E. Hibbard.  Green Lantern, the Flash, and Wonder Woman have hit the slopes, sharing a pair of skis, which really doesn’t make a lick of sense:

First off, who shares skis?  I don’t think that’s a thing… it’s not like a bicycle or something.  Second, skiing at night?  That’s seriously unsafe, especially when you are looking up at Santa and not ahead for trees you might run into.  At least the Flash is wearing a helmet.  Kudos to him for sending a good safety message.

Twelve Days of Wonder Woman: Day Three

December 15, 2010

We have reached the third day!!  We need some French hens.

Here is the great cover of Super Friends #10, drawn by J. Bone.  The Super Friends are engaged in all kinds of festive activities, and are being very inclusive by celebrating Christmas AND Hanukkah:

Wonder Woman conducting the choir is hilarious.  I’m impressed that Batman is singing without her having to use the lasso on him… that does not seem like his scene.  Also, I know Aquaman can communicate with sea creatures, but does a penguin count as a sea creature?  I am trying to sort out if Aquaman made that penguin come along, or if it just showed up of its own accord.

NOW It’s Christmastime!!

December 6, 2010

Look what I got in the mail!!

All the way from England too… Ebay is the best.  I missed the first three days, but that’s hardly a big deal considering that it crossed the Atlantic Ocean to get to me.  Amusingly, my mailman seemed to think that it would fit into my mailbox and jammed it right in there.  It fit, but not easily.  I had to put a few chocolates back into their slots.  But who cares??  I have a DOCTOR WHO ADVENT CALENDAR!!  I can now happily count down to the Doctor Who Christmas special… oh, and Christmas too.  But mostly the special.  No offense to those of you jazzed to celebrate the birth of Jesus, but my sort of Lord is a TIME Lord.

I feel much more festive now.  And, in keeping with this festive spirit, I am pleased to announce the Twelve Days of Wonder Woman, a countdown to Christmas (the special for me, Christmas in general for everyone else) starting December 13th, in which we will look at a fun Wonder Woman Christmas-themed cover every day through Christmas Ever (Doctor Who Christmas Special Eve).  I think it will be fun!!  Between my epic advent calendar and Rudolph in HD last week (Did you see that?  It was awesome!!), it’s about time to get festive around here.
