Apparently Iron Man Has A Thing For Wonder Woman

On the Oscars tonight, while presenting the award for Best Visual Effects, Robert Downey Jr. feigned annoyance at the folks who kept him strung up in wires and a harness in his Iron Man armour.  In response, Jude Law pointed out:

It’s their moment. You know, if it wasn’t for them your closest association with a superhero would have been in 2001, when you got busted in a cheap hotel with a woman dressed as Batgirl.

Robert Downey Jr. responded:

Okay, first of all, that cheap hotel room cost $1250 with a corporate discount. Secondly, it was 2000 not 2001. And most importantly, she was dressed as Wonder Woman.

So it sounds like RDJ is a bit of a Wonder Woman enthusiast.  Interestingly, he has a connection with David E. Kelley, from his time on Ally McBeal… maybe we’ll see him on the new Wonder Woman show!!  I doubt it, but it was still cool that Wonder Woman got a mention at the Oscars.

Also, this may have been the worst Oscars I’ve ever seen.  The whole thing was this awkward, bizarre trainwreck that I just couldn’t stop watching.  Though I did love James Franco’s complete indifference towards hosting… that was pretty hilarious, in that trainwreck sort of way.  Trotting out Kirk Douglas for five minutes of schtick was great too, again in a “this is SUCH a mess” manner.  The whole thing was just weird.  It’s sort of sad that a Bob Hope clip (hologram??) from before either host was born had the funniest lines of the night.  Now that dude could host!!  Tonight’s calamity was just ridiculous.

SIDENOTE: I didn’t remember until just two seconds ago that Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law did Sherlock Holmes together… their presenting now makes far more sense to me.  Amusingly, the spectacularness of the BBC’s Sherlock shows this summer has wiped my memory of Guy Ritchie’s movie.
