Women In Comics Statistics Special Edition: DC Comics’ Villain Month Solicits

This week, DC released solicits for their Villain Month, where their 52 comics get taken over by villains this September.  I crunched the numbers for female creators and characters over at Bleeding Cool, and things aren’t great.

There are only 4 female creator credits, making up 2.1% of all creators.  While this is very slightly better than the last two big September events, it’s less than half of what we’re used to seeing in a run of the mill month at DC.  And run of the mill months at DC aren’t that great for female creators in the first place!

For female characters, female led books in Villain Month are also less than an average month, while the number of male led books has sky rocketed.  You’ll be hard pressed to find a lady at DC, real of fictional, this September.

Head on over to Bleeding Cool for all of the stats fun.  The interesting people (men) in the comments section seem especially fired up this month, so that’s always a good time.

  1. Joe S. Walker Says:

Nobody called you a liberal-misandrist creep. You got off lightly.

  2. Karl Says:

There are now four times as many women writing for the new DCU than in September 2011 [when there was only one] now theres one fewer artist – there are no female artists they have available.
