The entertainment website Schmoes Know is reporting that Olga Kurylenko is testing for the role of Wonder Woman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel, according to what they call a reputable source. There have been rumours that Wonder Woman is a part of the film, perhaps to set up a Justice League movie, and Thor star Jaime Alexander mentioned that she had read the script, and this seems to be further fuel for that fire. It’s all just rumours so far, with no confirmation from anyone involved, but it’s fun to speculate.
Olga Kurylenko is a French model and actress probably best known for her role in Quantum of Solace, though she’s also appeared in Oblivion, Hitman, and Seven Psychopaths. I’m one of perhaps four people on the planet who actually thinks that Quantum of Solace is the best of the Daniel Craig Bond movies, but even as a fan of the film I actually don’t recall much of Kurylenko’s role. Gemma Arterton had far more to do in the movie, and got to display more of her acting ability. I wish that I saw more of Kurylenko’s body of work so I could comment on her skills and her suitability for the role, but I don’t know much about her.
She’s certainly lovely, and I can see her as Wonder Woman, but appearance is only part of the equation. She’s also tall, which is a nice plus when you’re trying to cast an Amazon. At 5’9, she fits the bill. But again, you don’t just pick someone to play Wonder Woman because she’s tall. Height is a bonus more than a necessity.
This will most likely end up as nothing; these rumours rarely pan out. Even when they are officially doing a superhero movie, the first names you hear never last. I remember when Captain America was announced I heard about 20 different actors who were up for the role over the span of a few months, none of whom were Chris Evans. And even if Olga Kurylenko is testing for Wonder Woman, it doesn’t mean that she’ll get the part. If Wonder Woman is happening, more names will pop up soon, I’m sure. And if it’s not, well we’ll just be sad when we go to the Man of Steel and it’s just Affleck and Cavill, broing it up without any lady superheroes.
