Bobby Rubio, a story artist at Pixar Animation Studios and the creator/artist of “4 Gun Conclusion” and “Alcatraz High”, has posted a new piece featuring Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. It’s the first such image I’ve seen so far; I’m surprised there aren’t a billion photoshopped mockups yet, much less more art. Regardless, it’s a cool picture:
I doubt the movie is going to have such a literal version of Wonder Woman’s costume if what they did with Superman is any indication, but it’s fun to get a rough idea of what Gadot might look like as Wonder Woman.
It also brings up a point a lot of people have been talking about: Gal Gadot is fairly slender, and lots of folks have been wondering if she’s too skinny to play Wonder Woman. This is always an inherently gross topic, when dudes on the internet argue about whether an actress is the right size to play a certain character. While Wonder Woman has traditionally not been drawn super model thin, I think that Gadot’s body is the last thing we need to be concerned about. She served in the Israeli army for two years and did lots of her own stunts in the Fast & Furious movies. Her strength and physical abilities are well established.
There’s a lot of cause for trepidation about Wonder Woman in the Man of Steel sequel. She’s playing third fiddle to Superman and Batman, the main stars of the film. Zack Snyder is directing the movie, and he has a poor track record with female characters. Plus the bleak and drab world of Man of Steel is honestly the last place I want to see Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot herself is the least of my concerns, much less her body shape.
Anyway, I enjoyed Rubio’s take on Gadot as Wonder Woman. It’ll probably be a while before we get a look at the movie costume, so drawings and mockups of Gadot as Wonder Woman will be all we have until then.
