Women In Comics Statistics: DC, October 19, 2011

It was another strong week for DC, who seem to be getting better all the time in October, but it was done in a typical DC fashion.  On October 19, 2011, DC released 19 new comic books with 145 credited creators, 128 men and 17 women.  Here are their overall stats:

An 11.7% is nicely above average for DC.  It’s nothing ludicrously better than usual, but it’s very good.  DC went back and forth a lot in September from high to low, but it seems to have settled down in October, probably due to the fact that they’re shipping more books as the DCnU grows and some new series are starting.  Let’s go to the categories:

And chart them up nice:

Oh, DC… you are so very predictable.  Next to nothing creatively, and then killer editorial numbers.  These editorial numbers are super fantastic, actually… both categories did really well.  Colourists were below average, though, while cover artists weren’t so great.  And then everything else was zeroes.  No writer, pencillers, inkers, or letterers.  That’s a bummer, but an expected bummer at least.

Notes:

  • Batman: Odyssey came back this week, but was anyone really missing it?  That is one odd looking book.  I get that Neal Adams is NEAL ADAMS, but still.
  • The busiest book of the week was Batman #2 with 12 creators, 2 of them ladies and both of them assistant editors.
  • Two books tied for highest percentage of female creators: Birds of Prey #2 and, somewhat hilariously, Red Hood and the Outlaws #2, both at 2 of 6.
