Out Today: Wonder Woman, Volume One: Blood

If you haven’t hit your local comic shop yet today, and if for some reason you are a crazy person who has yet to try out Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang’s Wonder Woman run, then you are in luck!!  The first six issues have been collected in Wonder Woman, Volume One: Blood, a very handsome hardcover, and it’s out TODAY.

And it works out really well, because Wonder Woman #7 is super dodgy and the book hasn’t really recovered from that for me, so with this collection you get all the good issues, before things get all rapey and murdery.  It’s a collection from a happier time, and despite my reservations about where the series is now, I heartily recommend checking out this book if you haven’t read the issues.

It’s absolutely gorgeous, first off.  Chiang just KILLS it on this book, and there are lots of cool sketches and designs in the back.  Frankly, if you’re not buying everything that Cliff Chiang draws then I have to question your sanity.  He’s pretty epic.

And the story is great for these first six issues.  There are several new characters, like Wonder Woman’s pal Zola and the evil but awesome Strife and my new favourite character in the whole world, bird-like, bad ass Hermes.  Zeus is missing and the other gods and jostling to take the throne and it’s a really strong start for the new series.

Anyway, you should definitely pick it up!!  It’s in comic book shops today, or you can be lame and wait a week and get it at a bookstore or on the ‘Zon.  I know it’s cheaper on the ‘Zon, but come on… support local small business!!  You know it’s the right thing to do.

Also, if you do pick it up and read the story for the first time, let me know what you think in the comments.  I’m curious to hear how it reads all at once to a new audience.
